Hopefully this FAQ section will answer many , if not all, of your questions about a session with me. Should you have anything else that you would like answered, please get in touch with me via the contact page and I will respond promptly.
The government has confirmed that the new COVID-19 Protection Framework will come into effect at 11.59 pm on the 2nd of December 2021.
What does this mean for you and your photoshoot?
It means that from the 3rd December 2021 Belinda Carr Photography will be adhering to the government’s advice by implementing the vaccine passport system.
For anyone entering the studio that is 12 years and older, will need to be fully vaccinated.
You will also need to scan and show proof of your vaccination passport before entering the studio. If you haven’t yet requested your vaccine pass, now is the time to do so. Visit mycovidrecord.health.nz or call 0800 222 478.
This is a challenging and stressful time and my heart is heavy that as a business I have to make such a choice for Belinda Carr Photography. I respect all my client’s choices in this matter however to maintain a viable business, sadly I don’t have a choice.
If you have any questions about this update or would like to chat about anything, please email or you’re welcome to give me a call during business hours.
Thank you for your continued support.
When is the best time to book?
Please try and book as early as possible as I do often book out months in advance!
Maternity: I would recommend having your shoot when you’re around 30-36 weeks pregnant.
Newborn: These shoots can be done any time up to 3 months old, however to achieve the curled up, sleepy poses it’s ideal for your baby to be photographed between 7-14 days old. Most clients secure their booking in their first or second trimester as I only secure a very limited number of due dates per month to guarantee my availability when you deliver and to be able to offer each and every one of my clients the best customer service. If you have already had your baby please still contact me and I will try my best to accommodate you.
Older baby & family: 6-8 months would have to be my favorite age to photography, ideally when your baby is sitting unaided and not yet crawling!
For babies under 1 years of age a studio or in-home session are best. Sessions take place on a weekday between 10.30am – 1pm.
Families with older children I would recommend an outdoor session. These sessions take place early evening for best lighting results.
I don’t usually work on weekends, however if you are wanting a weekend date please still contact me and I can check my family schedule to see if I am available.
How long does the session take?
Newborn: Newborn sessions take from 2 to 3 hours. The timings of the shoot are completely run by your baby. I will not rush them as it’s important that they feel safe, happy and comfortable at all times. It is normal for newborns to take some time to settle, and extra time is allowed for within the shoot for feeding, changing and cuddles!
Maternity, Older Baby & Family: These shoots last up to an hour depending on the age of your children. This is the perfect amount of time to capture them at their best, without them getting too tired.
Are sibling & family photos included?
YES! There is no extra fee for them to be involved in your maternity, newborn or milestone session.
It’s easy for parents to hide behind the camera, however in years to come your children will ask why you’re not in any of their images. I encourage all parents and siblings to get involved in your photography session, even if it is just your hands around your baby.
What happens if my baby arrives early/late will you still be able to fit me in?
When you make your booking for your newborn session, I make a note of your estimated due date on my calendar. If your baby happens to arrive earlier or later than expected, this is no problem. I keep my weekly schedule quite flexible to accommodate the unpredictability of babies. I also understand that some of our sweet little ones need a little extra time in the hospital as well. In these cases, we will adjust the time to schedule your newborn session when baby is home and heathy.
Is there an age limit for newborn photography?
This really depends on what you want. If you really want photos of your sweet, new baby asleep and dreamy, then it’s best to do your session within the first week or two. If you’re happy with a more awake, interactive images of your baby, a session can take place any time within the first couple of months.
What if my baby doesn't want to sleep?
No two newborn sessions are the same, the flow of your session is set by the mood of your baby on the day of your session, as well as the natural way their body moves. Some babies prefer to be curled up and some prefer to stretch out, some refuse to sleep – I won’t know this until the day; either way I will capture beautiful and natural photos of your baby for who they are at this point in time.
Where does the session take place?
This depends on what type of session you book.
Your session can take place in my brand new custom built studio, from the comfort of your own home or even the local beach/park.
What should we wear to our session?
Once you have a spot on my calendar, I will send you a full guide on how to prepare for your session, including clothing recommendations for the whole family.
Please take a look at my Pinterest board for inspiration on what to wear to your session: What To Wear.
Can you photoshop me?
While I occasionally use Photoshop to enhance and refine your photos, as well as remove some distracting, I do not use Photoshop to alter you or your baby’s appearance, or remove things that are part of you.
BUT – here is a list of things that I will photoshop:
· scratches on faces where they are distracting;
· overly distracting pieces of flaky skin
· distracting elements in the background of your photos.
How soon will it be until I see my photos?
I aim for a turn around time of 2-3 weeks.
Can I print the digital photos I receive on my USB?
Yes you can! You are free to print these photos for personal use only. These images are not watermarked. I highly recommend ordering your prints through me especially if you are printing anything larger than 4×6″ I cannot guarantee the quality of your photos if printed elsewhere.
Do you photograph families and older babies?
Yes! The goal of family sessions is to capture your family as they are right now, and the love that you have for each other. Family sessions are a lot of fun and I can help you style everyone in your family and prep for the session.
Family sessions take place either in-studio, from the comfort of your own home or at a local beach/park.
